Nintendo issues financial loss

It seems even Nintendo isn’t immune from the economic crisis as the gaming giant publishes annual losses for the first time in its history.

Nintendo has reported a loss of ?284m for the financial year, ending 31 March 2012, which equates to a 36.2% fall on sales from the previous year.

It’s the first time Nintendo has had to report losses, though the Japanese company has insisted it will continue “to pursue its basic strategy of ‘Gaming Population Expansion’ by offering compelling products that anyone can enjoy, regardless of age. Gender of gaming experience.”

It’s not all bad news for Nintendo mind. Sales of the 3DS are set to grow, with Nintendo confident they will report sales of 18.5m units by the next financial year.

Nintendo has also confirmed that we’ll be seeing the Nintendo Wii U before the end of the year, with the console set to debut in Europe, America and Japan.
