Now, half of adult Americans are known to consume supplements that contain ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, and protein to improve diet to improve athletic performance, the study found.

Overall, liver damage due to the consumption of one type of supplement is extremely rare. However, if overused, or used in conjunction with other supplements, or used for a very long time, or in combination with conventional drugs, supplements can be harmful.

Symptoms of liver complications generally takes several months or years to develop, and patients often do not notice until the case becomes severe. When the damage began to occur, the patient may initially often feel fatigue, itching, nausea, until then experienced jaundice, bleeding, and mental confusion. Consumers have free access to supplements, often with the promise of manufacturers to improve the health and appearance.
